`Following the construction of Basilica of St. Francis d`Assisi arose throughout the region, Pulse of the mendicant orders, numerous sites: among them that the Church of San Fortunato in Todi, the construction of which is proof tangible importance of the Franciscan order in the city and that, started in 1292, lasted until the fifteenth century.
The facade, unfinished at the top, is the work of John Santucci Firenzuola (half of the fifteenth) and culminates in the appearance Major Portal the lower band, flanked by two smaller portals and framed by pilasters, decorated with twisted columns and a cornice with sculptures; the sides of two niches with sculptures of the portal’Gabriele Arcangelo and Virgin of the Annunciation, attributed to’entourage Jacopo della Quercia.
L’internal Church is a transposition of Hall Churches Nordic mediated by re-reading of the Basilica of Assisi; interior space is monumental, consists of three naves of the same height (ending in slender vaults) divided by pointed arches on piers. The system is simple, harmonic, unified and dynamic at the same time and the church appear to reflect the more mature achievements of French Gothic contemporary with it.
